As part of the Oklahoma Tobacco Settlement Endowment Trust’s (TSET) Communities of Excellence grant, the Community Health Promotion department at OCCHD provides staff support for the Oklahoma County Tobacco Use Prevention Coalition. The Coalition works to eliminate secondhand smoke exposure, prevent tobacco use in youth and adults, promote tobacco cessation services for those who currently smoke or use other tobacco products, and expose the deceptive practices of the tobacco industry. The Coalition promotes change by changing policy in Oklahoma County.
The Tobacco Use Prevention program focuses on the following areas:
- Encouraging schools to implement 24-7 tobacco free policies
- Engaging and empowering youth in anti-tobacco awareness campaigns
- Encouraging parks and recreation areas to implement policies restricting the use of tobacco products
