Teen Health Services

IT’S YOUR FUTURE. YOU CAN PROTECT IT!

The Oklahoma City-County Health Department (OCCHD) is dedicated to improving the health, safety, and wellness of teens. Find out what you need to know to protect yourself.

As a teen, you have more power than anyone to prevent unplanned pregnancy and sexually transmitted infections (STIs). It’s your body and your health. Take care of it!

It doesn’t matter what sex or gender your partner is, you both need to be protected. If you are having sex, you can protect yourself and your partner from pregnancy, STIs, and HIV (the human immunodeficiency virus). Even if you are not having sex yet, it is important to know how to stay healthy and be prepared.

Confidential family planning appointments are available to teens regardless of one’s sex or gender. These preventive health services are made available through the Title X (ten) federal family planning program and include:

CONDOMS

Available for free and without seeing a provider. Visit one of our 10 vending machines around Oklahoma County. There is one outside of each clinic location above. They stock male and female condoms for free.

STI & HIV TESTING

Screening for sexually transmitted infections including chlamydia, gonorrhea, HIV, syphilis, trichomoniasis, and Hep C

EMERGENCY CONTRACEPTION
Sometimes called the “morning after pill,” available within three days (or 72 hours) after unprotected intercourse and can greatly reduce the chance of pregnancy.

COST?

Family Planning Fees Services are usually low or no cost and determined on a sliding scale according to your income level. Individuals will not be turned away or denied services for an inability to pay.

CONFIDENTIALITY

It is the policy of OCCHD to always encourage minors (teens under the age of 18) to discuss their healthcare needs with their parents or guardians. Minors must have a  parent or guardian with them when checking in for their Family Planning appointment. All examinations are done in private.

DO I NEED AN APPOINTMENT?

TL;DR….Yes.  If it is your first time seeing a provider, an appointment is necessary.  If you would like to start on birth control and schedule to see a provider a few weeks later, you can do that as well.  For more timely service we recommend you call ahead to make an appointment. We accept walk-ins for nurse only visits (pregnancy tests, starting on birth control, emergency contraception) up to an hour before closing.

HELPFUL INFORMATION FOR TEENS

WHAT ABOUT HPV?

HPV, or the human papillomavirus, is extremely common. Some types of HPV can cause genital warts and others can cause cancer (cervical, anal, penile, vaginal, vulvar and oral). The good news is that the HPV vaccine can protect you from the most common types of the virus.

Guarding against HPV requires early prevention, before someone is exposed to the virus through sexual or intimate contact. Vaccines are recommended for both females and males at age 11, but can be given to adolescents and young adults through age 26.

However, for minors, a parent or legal guardian must be present with you to receive the HPV vaccine. Talk to your parents or guardians about getting the HPV vaccine with us today.
